Rose Mary Durbin

Rose M. (Clevenger) Durbin, 83, of Dixon, IL, passed away at 1:46 p.m. on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, at Rock River Hospice and Home in Sterling, IL.

Rose was born on February 1, 1941, in Girard, IL to George R. (Sr.) and Mary E. (Gray) Clevenger. She was the first of eight children. On February 9, 1958, she married Dale J. Durbin of Taylorville, IL. They lived in Morrisonville and Palmer for most of their 61 years of marriage before he passed away in 2019. Together they had two children, Terry Durbin and Pam (Durbin) Harrison. They had five grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.

She was friendly, diligent, organized. She liked to be busy and her hands were always working. She was of Christian faith, and always read her Bible. She had a great mind for details and readily remembered loved one’s birthdays.

Rose had many hobbies, including being an avid reader of books, crocheting, and needlework. She made stocking caps for cancer patients. Later in life, she became a quilter. She was a stay-at-home mother for many years and enjoyed spending time with family. She worked at a local bank, several retail places and finally retired from Walmart after 10 years. After retirement, she enjoyed visiting the Senior Center with her sisters and morning chats with her friends at Rolling Meadows.

She was preceded in death by her husband, grandparents, parents, and three brothers.

She is survived by her children, Terry (Sue) Durbin of Westville, IL and Pam (Tom) Harrison of Dixon, IL; grandchildren, Amanda (Tom) Spinka of Livermore, CA; Susan (Jeremy) Lipa of Covington, IN; Laura (Thaddeus) of Cincinnati, OH; Kate (Dan) Burgoni of Deforest, WI; and Rodger Durbin of Georgetown, IL; 14 great-grandchildren; sisters, Judy Gates and Betty Durbin; brothers, Ed (Cheryl) Clevenger and George (Cindy) Clevenger; and many special nephews and nieces and cousins. She will be greatly missed.

A graveside ceremony for Rose will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 4, 2024 at Morrisonville Cemetery, 300 East Road, Morrisonville, IL 62546, with Rev. Chad Foster officiating.

George "Bud" Kuhl

George "Bud" Kuhl, age 77 of Sorento, passed away late Tuesday night, May 28, 2024, at his home in Sorento surrounded by his family.

George Herman “Buddy” Kuhl, age 77, of Sorento, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Tuesday, May 28, 2024. George was born in Breese, IL, on June 28, 1946, to Leo Herman Kuhl and Henrietta Marie (Hermeling) Kuhl. George was the eldest son of thirteen children. During his younger years, their family moved to Bond County. George enlisted in the Marines on January 5,1966 and served in Vietnam until January 4,1968 as a radio operator, machine gunner and drove for the Commanding Officer. The medals he received were the Purple Heart, Excellent Marksman in Rifle, Vietnamese Service Medal with 1 Oak Leaf, National Defense Service, Republic of Vietnam Service with 1960 device, Navy Presidential Unit Citation and Navy Unit Commendation, and Good Conduct Medal.

Upon his return from Vietnam, he met Patricia Williamson. They were married November 30,1968 at the Sacred Heart Church in Livingston, IL. They were married for 37 years until her untimely death in 2005. While raising his family, George was a heavy equipment operator and enjoyed operating any machinery. He retired from Scott Air Force Base in 2010 as the civil engineering shop supervisor. In his free time, he enjoyed finding creative ways to fix things in his shed and his neighbors knew they could count on him to help them.

He had numerous hobbies including playing cards, hunting, bowling, horseshoes, and softball. He was the pitcher for Scott Air Force Base softball team that traveled several years to compete in Colorado.

George was driven by a strong work ethic and taught his children to do it right the first time. This led to practicing and coaching his children in their sports. He loved watching his kids and grandkids participate in their sports, music, and other activities.

In his retirement, he loved having his family at the house to ride recreational vehicles, grilling, watching mother nature and enjoying life from his front porch.

George was preceded in death by his parents (Leo and Marie Kuhl), spouse, Patricia Sue (Williamson) Kuhl, his sisters, Annette Kuhl-Middleton & Alice Campbell, brother Leroy Kuhl, brothers-in-law, Charlie Spaeth, Les Mullen, & sisters-in-law Linda (Red) Kuhl, Paula (Leroy) Kuhl & Kathy (Urban) Kuhl.

He is survived by his children, Dianah (Ted) Troemel, Tina (John) Tompkins, and Tom Kuhl. Also, his grandchildren Trey Kuhl, Ross Tompkins, Brooke Tompkins, Nate Troemel, and Olivia Kuhl.

Michael Charles Coffey

Michael Charles Coffey, 64, of Taylorville, IL, passed away Sunday, May 26, 2024, at his residence.  He was born September 11, 1959, the son of Charles and Barbara (Helmers) Coffey. 

Surviving are his daughter, Nichole (Adam Brachear) Coffey of Palmer, IL; his grandchildren, Aiden (Angel Biggs) Coffey of Taylorville, IL, and Baleigh Keever of Taylorville, IL; his great-granddaughter, Athena Coffey; his siblings, Mark (Tammy Scott) Coffey of Taylorville, IL, Cheryl (Steve) McMahon of Taylorville, IL, Lori Burdzilauskas of Taylorville, IL, Lisa Daykin of Taylorville, IL, and Carole Harrison of Taylorville, IL., and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents.

During his free time, Michael enjoyed hunting and golfing.  A special moment he will never forget was hunting in the African Safari. 

Per Michael’s wishes, cremation rites will be accorded.  A celebration of Michael’s life will be held at a later date. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, to make a donation in his name to the Safe Passage Program in Taylorville, IL to help others struggling with addiction.

Alex "Sam" Szabo

Mr. Alex “Sam” Szabo, 95, of Tovey, IL died at 2:58 p.m. Tuesday, May 28, 2024, at Taylorville Estates.

He was born in Tovey, IL November 27, 1928, the son of Louis and Elizabeth (Molnar) Szabo, Sr.

Mr. Szabo was a faithful member of St. Rita’s Catholic Church and was a lifetime member of both The Knights of Columbus 4446 where he served as Recording Secretary, Third Degree and the American Legion Post 905 all in Kincaid, IL.  He was a former member of the Taylorville V.F.W.  He honorably served his country in the U.S. Army in Korea during the Korean War.  He served for 37 years as the Tovey Village Clerk, and a great many years as the Financial Secretary of the Tovey Water Department.  Sam as he was affectionately known to many, was one of the original founders of Midland Community Bank where he served as a Director from 1967 to 2024.   Mr. Szabo worked briefly for Peabody Mine #8 and retired from Fiat-Allis in Springfield, IL as Payroll Clerk after 27 years there.  He loved his Chicago Cubs and the Village of Tovey.

Surviving are many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings Louis Szabo, Jr., Nicholas Szabo, Elizabeth (Szabo) Donini, and Joseph Szabo.

Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, June 1, 2024, at St. Rita’s Catholic Church in Kincaid.  Fr. Piotr Kosk will officiate.  Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Pawnee, IL.

Visitation for Alex “Sam” Szabo will be held for 1 hour before his Mass at the church.  Masterson Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.

Richard M. Law

Richard M. Law, 87, of Taylorville, IL, passed away on Monday, May 27, 2024, at Taylorville Memorial Hospital. He was born on November 26, 1936, in Owaneco, IL, the fourth son of Lloyd F. and Nellie Nevada (Friend) Law.

Richard attended Owaneco Elementary Grade School and lettered in basketball. He played baseball in the summer. He graduated from Taylorville High School in 1955, and on December 18, 1955, he married the love of his life, Kathleen McMillan, in the Davis Memorial Christian Church in Taylorville.

Richard farmed for over fifty years after working for Allis-Chalmers in Springfield, IL, for two years. In his spare time, he enjoyed bowling, golfing, and riding motorcycles. He served as a trustee for the Locust Township for several years and shoveled snow for many winters for the township. Richard also received a certificate of recognition and appreciation for volunteering at the Illinois Department of Corrections Taylorville Correctional Center throughout 1993, 1994, and 1995. Richard later served as a trustee for the Eagles Club for several years and drove cars for local car agencies. He and his wife, along with their daughter, Deborah, traveled every summer and later with his grandson throughout the United States. He loved spending time with his family and is missed dearly.

He is survived by his loving wife, Kathy Law; daughter, Deborah Anne Law-Redoutey (Thomas Redoutey); one grandson, Richard Redoutey (Kelly Redoutey); and two great-grandsons, Owen and Lucas. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Nellie Law, and his three brothers, Chester, Ivan, and Eugene.

A visitation will be held on Friday, May 31, 2024, from 12:00-1:00 p.m. at Glen Haven Memorial Gardens in Taylorville, IL. A graveside service will begin at 1:00 p.m. with Christy Conrad officiating.

Memorials in Richard’s honor may be made to Kemmerer Village or to the Class of 1955 c/o Rick Mazzotti.

Mary Evelyn Norris

Mary Evelyn Norris, 85 of Taylorville passed away on Monday, May 27, 2024, at 10:12 p.m. at Taylorville Memorial Hospital in Taylorville. She was born on December 20, 1938, in Pawnee, IL, the daughter of Ambrose and Lenora (Lovens) Boarman. Evelyn married George E. Norris on April 19, 1958. They were married for 66 years.

Before she and George had children, Evelyn worked for Dr. Thomas Butler for several years. She later worked for a local florist and at the Taylorville Public Library. Evelyn’s greatest love was her husband and family. She enjoyed sending cards and letters of encouragement to friends and neighbors and loved to make people smile. For many years she found joy in providing the 6th grade class at St. Mary’s with a special graduation gift.

Evelyn is survived by her husband: George E. Norris of Taylorville; daughters: Elizabeth (Brian) Hile of Taylorville, Susan (Steve) Curtin of Stonington, Lisa (Steve) Falica of Taylorville;  daughter-in-law: Debbie Norris of Taylorville; grandchildren: Mark (Jennifer) Schaefer of Chatham, Amy Campogni of Taylorville, Benjamin Curtin (Fiancé Mackenzie Delaney) of Fisher, Jack Curtin of Stonington, Elizabeth (Brandon) Odam of Stonington, Daniel Laker of Taylorville, Luke Laker of Chatham, Lauren Falica of Taylorville, Matthew Norris of Assumption, and Amanda Wendling of Taylorville;  great-grandchildren: Barrett and Ali Schaefer, Audrey Curtin, Brooks Odam, Audrey Norris, and Heidi Wendling; sisters: Donna (Gene) Norris of Ballwin, MO, Betty Fulford of Shelbyville, IL; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; son: Greg Norris; brothers: Ed Boarman, Joe Boarman, Bob Boarman; sisters: Shirley Gaddis and Sue Roessler; special aunt and uncle Ben and Florence Reichert.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 4, 2024, from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Taylorville. Funeral Mass will be held immediately following the visitation starting at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Taylorville with Father Pitor Kosk officiating. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville.

Jennie M. Roseberry

Jennie M. Roseberry, 93 of Taylorville, passed away at 12:52 a.m. on Monday, May 27, 2024, at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.  She was born on June 26, 1930, in Kincaid, the daughter of John and Josephine (Noseda) Brandis.  She married William Roseberry Sr. on June 12, 1987, in Tucson, Arizona, and he preceded her in death on January 4, 2022.  Jennie graduated from South Fork High School.  She owned and operated Christian County Credit Bureau for over 30 years and served as President of the Illinois Collectors Association for 1 year.  She was a member of St. Rita Catholic Church.  She enjoyed sewing, painting, hummingbirds, and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She is survived by her children: Betty Ryan of Taylorville, Bill (Pam) Roseberry of Taylorville, and Gregg (Jackie) Roseberry of New London, Missouri; grandchildren: Jacob Ryan, Jacelyn Prince, Tiffany (Barrett) Kalka, Billy (Lacey) Roseberry, and Bailey (Kari) Roseberry; great grandchildren: Zachary Kalka, Colton Kalka, Ryan Prince, and Brady Prince; nephews: John Brandis and Jim Brandis; niece: Jolene Brandis; and several cousins.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and brother: Joe Brandis.

A memorial mass for Jennie will take place at 12:00 noon on Monday, June 3, 2024, at St. Rita Catholic Church in Kincaid with Fr. Piotr Kosk officiating.  The visitation will be held from 11:00a.m. until the time of the mass, and inurnment will take place in Oak Hill Cemetery, Taylorville.  Memorials may be made to the Christian County Senior Center.  McClure Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Taylorville is assisting the family with arrangements. 

Dale A. Borgic

Taylorville – Dale A. Borgic, 59, of Taylorville, passed away Saturday, May 25, 2024, at Springfield Memorial Hospital.

Dale was born September 8, 1964, in Hillsboro, IL, the son of Darrell J. and Martha Jane (Kessler) Borgic. He worked as a mechanic for many years, drove a truck for McLeod Trucking, loved to fish and spend time outdoors.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Otto.

Surviving are his daughters: Jessie Gordon and Marissa Borgic; siblings: Raymond (Diane) Borgic, Barbara (John) Rankin, John (Bonnie) Borgic, Vincent Borgic, and Mark (Violet) Borgic; companion, Linda Getz; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

No service are planned at this time. Cremation services will be provided by Graceland/Fairlawn Crematory.

Thomas Edmund Davey, D.M.D.

Mt. Zion - Thomas Edmund Davey, D.M.D., 77, of Mt. Zion, passed away, Friday, May 24, 2024.

Tom was born on February 25, 1947, in Ann Arbor, Michigan. DeeDee and Hunter Moody were his parents. Tom graduated from Taylorville High School. He married Mary Micenheimer on December 19, 1970.

Tom graduated from the University of Louisville School of Dentistry in 1974. From there, Tom and Mary moved to Decatur, Illinois in 1974 where they opened their dental practice. Retiring in 2011, Tom sold his practice to Dr. Eric Wherley.

Tom then invested his time in a myriad of interests: woodworking, airplanes, cars, clocks, guns, and animals. Tom soloed at age 16, and then obtained his pilot’s license. His interest in airplanes continued for the rest of his life. Ace Hardware in Mt. Zion was another place where he found his niche using his talents and know-how. He and Mary were known as Team Davey, building countless grills together, along with Tom fixing screens.

Tom died on May 24,2024 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, Illinois. He is survived by his wife Mary. They were married for 54 years. He is also survived by his brother-in-law Jim Micenheimer (Linda), and their family. Also surviving is Nik Bodine, an “adopted” son, friend, and neighbor, and his family. Tom had many cousins across the U.S.A., and in Australia as well.

Our world lost a kind and gentle soul, one always ready and willing to help a friend or neighbor.

Mary is so grateful for the excellent care Tom received at Kirby Medical Center and Carle Foundation Hospital.

Christine Compton

Christine Compton, 74, of Pana, IL, passed away at 4:18 p.m. Wednesday, May 22, 2024, at HSHS St. John’s Hospital, Springfield, IL.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 29, 2024, in Howe & Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL, with Rev. Antonio Sutton officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 28, 2024.  in the funeral home. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville, IL. Memorials may be given to the American Heart Association.

Christine was born on November 12, 1949, in Shelbyville, IL, the daughter of James Frederick and Lydia Jane (Morris) Schouten. She graduated from Shelbyville High School in the Class of 1967 and completed her nurses training in St. Louis, MO.  Christine was a registered nurse at Shelby Memorial Hospital, where she worked alongside her mother, Lydia, taking care of babies. Christine married Rev. Thomas Compton on August 7, 1971, in Shelbyville, IL.  She then worked as a Teacher’s Aide in Special Education at Coffeen Elementary School and Taylorville High School.  Christine was a devoted mother, grandmother, and pastor’s wife as their family served churches in White Hall, Jacksonville, Hillsboro, Assumption, and Findlay. She enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s sporting events, concerts, and activities.  Christine loved music and was an extremely talented and creative seamstress.

Christine is survived by her sons, Kurt Compton (Tiffney) of Witt, IL and Karl Compton (Carly) of Findlay, IL; daughter, Kendra Finley (Chris) of Ramsey, IL; brothers, J. Fred Schouten II (Debra) of Celebration, FL, and John C. Schouten of Benton, AR; father-in-law, Frank Compton of Shelbyville, IL; brothers-in-law, David Compton (June) of Tower Hill, IL, Charles “Chuck” Compton (Kathy) of Shelbyville, IL, and Steve Compton (Carol) of Shelbyville, IL; eight grandchildren, Vanessa Compton, Sierra Compton, Alexa Compton, Wyatt Daniels, Lilly Compton, Melody Finley, Gabriel Finley, and Thomas Finley; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Rev. Thomas Compton on December 3, 2018; mother-in-law, Juanita Compton; and sister-in-law, Beth Schouten.

Rita A. Martin

Rita A. Martin, 81, of Taylorville, IL, passed away Tuesday, May 21, 2024, at 12:48 p.m., at Springfield Memorial Hospital.  She was born September 22, 1942, in Taylorville, IL, the daughter of Raymond and Beulah (Durbin) Gaynor.  She married Thomas Vail in June of 1960.  Later in life, she married Bernard Martin in December of 1985. 

Surviving are her son, Thomas P. (Denise) Vail of Taylorville, IL; a stepson, Chuck (Mary Jo) Martin of Morrisonville, IL; her grandchildren, Eric (Brooke Declerck) Vail of Taylorville, Randy Vail of Taylorville, and Brad (Tori) Vail of Fairbanks, AK; her great-grandchildren, Liliella, Brody, Layla, Zeke, and Mabel Vail; her step-grandchildren, Allison (Adam) Wiley of Morris, IL, Kyle (Allison) Martin of Marine, IL, Amber Mann, her step-great-grandchildren, Andrew and Abigail Wiley, Tessa and Zach Martin; as well as her brother, Mike (Jean) Gaynor of Owaneco, IL.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard Martin; a stepdaughter, Kathy Mann; two brothers, Raymond Gaynor, Jr, and Tom Gaynor; two sisters, Janet Matthew and Beulah Martin

Rita graduated from Taylorville High School in 1960. She was an active member of the Catholic Daughters of America and owned a women’s clothing store. Along with her husband, Bernard, they owned and operated Martin Kennels for many years. In her spare time, she loved going down to the senior center to play cards and do puzzles. Rita also enjoyed going over to her son’s house to visit Tom and family and watch the daycare kids run around.

The family will receive family and friends at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville, IL, from 11:00-1:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 30, 2024.  The funeral service will immediately follow with Pastor Russ Burch officiating.  Burial will follow services at Fraley Cemetery in Taylorville, IL. Donations in memory of Rita may be made to Christian County Senior Citizens or Christian County Coal Mine Museum. Sutton Memorial Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Lugenia C. "Dotty" Parrish

Lugenia C. “Dotty” Parrish, 95 of Taylorville passed from this life on Monday, May 20, 2024.

 

She was born on January 25, 1929, in Taylorville the daughter of William T. McLeod and Irma F. (Adams) McLeod.  She was raised by her maternal grandparents, John and Viola Adams.  Dotty graduated from Taylorville High School in the class of 1946.  She went on to work at Sangamon Company in Taylorville. On June 6, 1948, she married Harold R. “Slick” Parrish. They were married for 73 years.  

 

She remained a stay-at-home mom for several years.  Later, she returned to work as a bookkeeper at Brown and Sons where she worked alongside her husband. 

 

While raising her daughters, she was involved in their grade school activities and committees.  She was also active with her girls’ scouting.  She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, participating in Bible study classes and various committees.  She was an avid reader.  She always looked forward to attending “Slick’s” navy reunions as well as their regular Thursday luncheons with high school classmates. 

 

She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Irma; her husband; her half-sister Connie Law; her son-in-law Louis Trutter; sister-in-law Virginia Davis and husband Charles; sister-in-law Wilma Parrish; brothers-in-law Aldo Vitali and Carroll Law; and great-nephew J. R. Ewins. 

 

She is survived by her daughters Patricia Trutter of Alvarado, Texas and Joyce (Dave) Jamison of Taylorville; grandchildren: Nick (Jane) Jamison of Westerville, Ohio; Megan Jamison of Taylorville; Alyssa Trutter of Bryan, Texas; Emily (Wesley) Shimek of Waxahachie, Texas; great-grandchildren: Lilly and Claire Jamison and Charlotte, Andrew and Adelaide Shimek; sister-in-law: Edmona Vitali of Taylorville; brother-in-law: Robert E. Parrish of Lincoln; several nieces and nephews and many great-nieces/nephews. 

 

Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 28 from 10:00 – 11:00 at McClure Funeral Home in Taylorville.  The funeral service will begin at 11:00 with Pastor Becky Lembke officiating.  Interment will follow at Glen Haven Memorial Gardens.  Memorials in Dotty’s honor may be given to First United Methodist Church of Taylorville or FUR Love, the Charitable Resale Shoppe for the proposed animal shelter expansion project.

Donna Poleon

Donna Poleon, age 84, of Palmer, Illinois, passed away on May 20, 2024 at Memorial Hospital in Springfield, Illinois.

Donna was born March 30, 1940 in Isabella County, Michigan, the daughter of Clarence Campbell and Loretta (Jordan) Campbell. She spent her childhood years in Brandt, Michigan.  On August 6, 1960, Donna married Christopher Patrick Poleon in St. Charles, Michigan. Donna and Christopher resided in the Morrisonville (Palmer) area since 1968; he preceded her in death in July 2004. 

Donna was creative. She enjoyed yard work, growing flowers, painting, drawing, sewing, knitting, baking and making Tik Tok videos with her grandkids–earning a family moniker of “Donna Gene The Tik Tok Queen.” She loved spending time with her family and with her cat, Gidget. Donna was a loving, caring, selfless, kindhearted woman who was always busy taking care of others. She worked as an independent caretaker in the healthcare industry. 

Donna was a member of St. Maurice Catholic Church in Morrisonville, Illinois and enjoyed serving as an election judge for Bear Creek Township, Christian County. 

Donna is survived her sister, Luella Howe of Texas; children, Keith Poleon, Tyrone Poleon, Melanie Tarrant, all of Palmer, IL; and Theresa (David) DeJaynes of Morrisonville, IL; grandchildren, Michael (Ashley) Poleon; Shannon (Luis) Espiritu; Amanda (Matt) McKinney; Jessica (Zach) Turner; Summer (Matt) Hancock; Brendon (Kelly) DeJaynes; Danielle (Jason) Smith; Joshua DeJaynes; Christine (Josh) Kingman; Aaron DeJaynes; and Jacob (Katie) Tarrant; 27 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband; parents; 3 brothers, Jack Campbell; Thomas Campbell; Joe Campbell; 1 sister, Mary Hehnlin; 3 grandsons, Josh Burdzilauskas; Blake West; and Matthew Poleon; and 3 great-grandchildren, Michael Gillen; Amelia Poleon; and AJ McKinney.

James E. "Jim" Renner

James E. “Jim” Renner, 62 of Taylorville, passed away on Monday, May 20, 2024, in his home.  He was born on November 30, 1961, in Chicago Heights, the son of Jack and Mary (Schlosser) Renner.  He was the president of Marsch Emulsions and vice president of Louis Marsch Inc. 

He is survived by his wife: Alicia Renner of Taylorville; children: Jaclyn Renner of Taylorville, Jennifer Renner of Montezuma, Indiana, and Jessica Hogge of Taylorville; granddaughter: Anna Hogge; siblings: Patti (Fred) Crow of Lebanon, Indiana, Cindy (Mark) Wagner of Reston, Virginia,  Steve (Dejan) Renner of Naples, Florida, Rob Renner of Huntington Beach, California, Ray (Brenda) Renner of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, and Ken (Leslee) Renner of Nashville, Tennessee.  He was preceded in death by his parents.

Robert F. "Bob" Davis

Robert F. Bob” Davis, 88 of Taylorville, passed away at 5:40p.m. on Thursday, May 16, 2024, at Taylorville Memorial Hospital.  He was born on August 31, 1935, in Xenia, the son of Herschel S. and Blanche (Fry) Davis.  He married Irene Maxine Rabe on March 2, 1957, in Pinckneyville.  Bob grew up in Flora before attending SIU Carbondale where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in education, and later went on to receive a Masters from the University of Illinois and an administration degree from Eastern Illinois University.  While attending SIU, Bob worked for the Illinois Central Railroad.  Bob proudly served our country from 1954 – 1958 in the U.S. Navy, spending time in Japan during the Korean conflict.  Prior to his time in the service, Bob worked as the assistant manager of a clothing store in Flora. He taught school in Streator before becoming principal and later superintendent of the Kincaid Elementary School.  He finished his career in education by teaching at St. Maurice Catholic School in Morrisonville, retiring in 1998.  Bob was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church where he served in many roles including Deacon, Elder, and a member of the choir.  Bob served on the board at Christian County Senior Center.  He was an avid golfer, enjoyed model trains, airplanes, and playing bridge with friends.  He thoroughly enjoyed gardening and caring for his yard and woodworking.  He loved traveling and had visited all 50 states and several other locations around the world.

He is survived by wife: Irene Davis of Taylorville; sons: Brad Davis (Helen) of Taylorville, and Phillip Davis (Lisa) of St. Louis; grandchildren: Brandon Davis (Leah), Blake Davis (Stevi), Brooke Davis, Ryan Helm (Nicole), Samantha Helm, Amanda Helm, Simon Davis, Esther Davis (Jake Lentz), Samual Davis (Bergie), Jordan German, Kieran German, and Sarah German; great grandchildren: Lila Davis, Elise Davis, Camden Davis, Lucas Davis, Finley Davis, Halle Helm and Noa Helm; brother: Ed Davis (Shirley) of Mattoon; sister: Mary Beth Hagen of Flora; and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents and sister: Carolyn Gregory.

A memorial service for Bob will take place at 12:00p.m. on Thursday, May 23, 2024 at the First Presbyterian Church in Taylorville with Bill Harmon officiating.  The visitation will be held from 10:00a.m. until the time of the service.  Inurnment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.  Memorials may be made to the Chrisitan County Senior Citizens Center or the First Presbyterian Church.  McClure Funeral Home and Cremation Services is assisting the family with arrangements.

Richard "Rick" Allan Rose

Richard “Rick” Allan Rose, 65 of rural Nokomis passed away on Thursday, May 16, 2024, at 4:29 a.m. at Taylorville Memorial Hospital in Taylorville. He was born on September 20, 1958, in Rushville, IL, the son of Robert Andrew and Betty (Sexton) Rose. Rick was a partner to Martha DeSantis, the love of his life for 30 years and she preceded him in death in 2020.

Rick was the owner of Roses Furniture Company after working for many years as the manager of Betty Roses Furniture on the square for more than 30 years. Rick had many hobbies and was most known for his love of the outdoors. He loved farm life and spent years raising chickens and cows. Rick was most known for his love of peacocks, raising many beautiful birds including an all-white one. Rick was known as a hard worker, having been a bread delivery driver before working at Betty Rose’s Furniture. He was also loved for his sense of humor and his handyman ability to fix about anything.  Rick loved playing pool. He played in many tournaments, even in Las Vegas. He was a member of the Lake Taylorville Campers and APA Pool League.    

Rick is survived by his Son: Robert “Bobby” Rose of Nokomis, IL; Mother: Betty Rose of Taylorville, IL; Stepdaughters: Amanda (Steven) Nelson and Jaclyn (Sam) Bajrami; Grandchildren: Max Bajrami and Alivia Nelson; Sister: Diane Scarpaci and Several Nieces and Nephews. He was preceded in death by his Father, Sister: Debbie Breckenridge and Brother: Danny Rose. 

Graveside services will be held on Thursday, May 23, 2024, at 12:00 Noon at Kettelkamp Cemetery in rural Nokomis, IL with Pastor Chad Zueck officiating.

Gregory John Reber

Gregory John Reber, 64 of Taylorville passed away on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, at ­­­­9:37 a.m., as the result of a motor vehicle crash in the Raymond, IL area. He was born on July 10, 1959, in Taylorville the son of William and Janet (German) Jones. He loved to ride his motorcycle and spend time with his grandkids.

Neva Ann Mooney

Neva Ann Mooney, 72 of Taylorville, passed away on Tuesday, May 14, 2024, at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.  She was born on March 1, 1952 in Taylorville, the daughter of John and Vonda (Phelps) Mooney, who preceded her in death.  She is survived by her sister: Lisa (Randy) Richardson of Taylorville; nephew: John Richardson of Springfield; and niece: Kate (Will) Decker of Dallas, Texas.

Neva graduated from Taylorville High School and Western Illinois University.  She taught at St. Mary’s Catholic School in Taylorville for over 40 years.  She dedicated her life to teaching and loved her students and fellow teachers.  Above all, she loved her niece and nephew, to whom she was like a second mother.  Neva touched many lives with her kindness, always thought of others before herself, and she will be greatly missed. 

A celebration of life will take place at 11:00a.m. on Saturday, June 8, 2024 at McClure Funeral Home in Taylorville with Rev. Nancy Lee Winn

Nancy Lee Winn, 89 of Stonington passed away on Thursday, April 11, 2024, at 6:48 a.m. at Taylorville Estates in Taylorville, IL. She was born on January 6, 1935, in Staunton, Virginia, the daughter of Jesse Colen Campbell and Alice Josephine (McCormick) Campbell. She married Byron Winn on April 9, 1954, in the parsonage of the First Baptist Church in Taylorville.

She worked at St. Vincents Memorial Hospital as a unit Clerk for many years. She loved sports and played softball for the women’s team at St. Vincents. She loved roller skating and taught her children and grandchildren to skate as well. She always enjoyed a good game of horseshoes too. She was a Cubs fan and enjoyed their games. She enjoyed working in her yard and sitting on her glider on the patio watching the birds and listening to gospel music on the radio. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Stonington. She loved to sing and enjoyed being a part of the church choir. But above everything, she loved her family and spent all of her days making each one feel loved and special, leaving them with many, many wonderful memories. She looked forward to returning to Virginia every summer to visit with her mother, siblings and all of her Virginia Family. She always said she was a Virginia girl, but Stonington is her home.

She is survived by her children: Allen Clay (Nancy) Winn of Augusta, Georgia, and Terry Lee (David) Myers of Taylorville, Illinois. grandchildren Matthew Winn, Troy Sleeth, Brittany (Corey) Toomey, Paige Myers and Brooke Myers. Great-Grandchildren: Zoey Scoles, Emily White, Christian White, Hannah Winn, Payton White, Beibhinn Winn, Harper Myers-Krueger, Wilder Toomey and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her mother, husband, stillborn daughter, siblings: Tom McCormick, Ann Campbell, Mary Campbell, Peggy McCarthy, Jack Campbell, Ray Campbell and Helen Straphy as well as several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Nancy will be cremated, and the services will be held at a later date.

Wanda Lowis

Wanda Lowis, 100, of Palmer, IL, passed away on Wednesday, May 8, 2024, at 7:16 p.m. at Taylorville Care Center.  She was born September 23, 1923, in Byrdstown, TN, the daughter of Wesley and Bertha Jane (Rigney) Dowdy.  She married Howard Lowis on January 18, 1941.

Surviving are her children, Doris (Fiancée Mal Hildebrand) Melvin of Tovey, IL; Dale (Mary) Lowis of Palmer, IL, Jim (Dawn) Cummings of Interlochen, MI, Danny (Sande) Lowis of Waverly Hill, GA; Leslie (Dana) Overcash of Esmond, N.D., Vernon (Maureen Dowdy) Lowis of Taylorville, IL, Bill (Mary) Lowis of Morrisonville, IL, Richard Lowis of Palmer, IL, Gary (Tammy) Lowis of Taylorville, IL, and Steve Lowis of Palmer, IL; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren; her siblings, Opal Lowis of Springfield, IL, Nellie Fleming of Rochester, IL,  and Deanna Palaschak of Springfield, IL.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard; her parents, two sons, Don and David Lowis, her siblings, Ray Dowdy, Roy Dowdy, Belvie Hogge, Elizabeth Cravens, and Sylvia Mahan.

Wanda enjoyed going out to the lake on boat rides and deer watching.  She also enjoyed tending to her garden.

The family will receive family and friends at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville, IL, from 9-11 a.m. on Thursday, May 16, 2024.  The funeral service will immediately follow with Pastor Chad Foster officiating. Burial will follow services at Anderson Cemetery in Palmer, IL.

Elaine Wilkinson

Elaine German Wilkinson, age 66, of Taylorville, Illinois, passed away on May 10, 2024 at Taylorville Care Center in Taylorville.

 

Elaine was born on September 11, 1957 in Decatur, IL, the daughter of Russel Earl German and Hilda Anna May. Elaine and her siblings were raised in Illiopolis, IL, and she still has many friends from that area, including life-long friend, Jeannie Camfield. She graduated from Illiopolis High School in 1975.

 

On August 26, 1983, Elaine married Deon Wilkinson. He preceded her in death on July 22, 2007. After marrying Deon, Elaine settled in Taylorville where she made the most wonderful friends who have been an amazing support tribe during the last two years of her cancer battle.

 

She loved golf and especially loved gathering with the golf girls for after golf celebrations. Other hobbies included accessorizing–every outfit had a purse, wallet, shoes, and jewelry to match, bowling, spending time with girlfriends, and being the life of the party. 

 

Elaine dearly loved life and loved to have fun. She loved to show off her sassy side. If it was going to shock someone, Elaine was going to say it. She was a loving, fun, full of life, feisty woman with a big heart. 

 

She was a member of the Taylorville V.F.W. Auxiliary Post #4495 and Taylorville First United Methodist Church. Her visits with Pastor Becky were truly a comfort.

 

She worked in medical billing and as a Certified Ambulance Billing Specialist–spending 20 years working at America Ambulance (Springfield, IL) and most recently working at Dunn’s Ambulance Service, Inc. (Taylorville, IL). She met many dear friends during her time in the EMS industry.

 

Elaine often expressed how lucky and blessed she was to have such wonderful people in her life.

 

Elaine is survived by her sisters, Sharon Bernhoff (husband, Orrin) of TN and Helen Rogers (fiance, David Towne) of Stonington, IL; brother, Russell Duane German (wife, Pamela) of Anywhere USA; and several cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, bonus children, and grandchildren.

 

She is preceded in death by her husband; her parents; little brother, Myron German; niece, Melissa Bernhoft; and companion of 10 years, William (Bill) Marshall.

Mrs. Patricia J. Anderson

Mrs. Patricia J. Anderson, 90, of Kincaid, IL passed from this life at 11:40 P.M. Wednesday, May 8, 2024 at Springfield Memorial Hospital.

She was born in Kincaid, IL December 20, 1933 the daughter of Eugene and Mary (Appleby) Coy.  Patricia married George D. "Gump" Anderson February 11, 1956 in Kincaid, IL.  They enjoyed 50 years together.  Mr. Anderson preceded her in death September 22, 2006.

Patricia had worked at the dress factory in Kincaid.  She is a former member of the American Legion Post 905 Auxiliary in Kincaid.  Mrs. Anderson enjoyed gardening, time spent with family, and bingo.

Surviving are a son Larry and wife Anita Anderson of Dacula, GA a daughter Marcia husband Mike Austin of Round Rock, TX grandchildren Bryan Austin of Round Rock, TX and Christina Rogers and a great granddaughter Vivian Jewel Rogers both of Taylorville, IL. 2 brothers Loren Charles "Chuck" Heiple of Kincaid, IL and William "Bill" Heiple of Taylorville, IL. along with many beloved nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and 2 sisters Eugenia Coy Cima and Joy Heiple Scott.

Clifford “Cliff” E. Ballion, 59, of Montezuma, Indiana, passed away Monday, May 6, 2024. He was born April 10, 1965 in Belleville, Illinois to the late Joseph Emanuel Ballion and Marie “Reedee” Gallbraith Ballion.

Cliff grew up in Illinois. Throughout his life he lived in Illinois, Texas, Oklahoma, Florida, Tennesee and settled in Indiana. Throughout his life, he held various positions including an auto/diesel mechanic, farmhand and truck driver. He enjoyed being a mechanic the most; always tinkering with something.

He is survived by his children: Ashley (Kyle) Millburg, Aaron Ballion and Chandler (Amy) Ballion; grandchildren: Jaxcyn Bandy, Maebre Millburg, Payton Ballion and Harley Rose Ballion; siblings: Sandie DeClerck, Allyn “Buzz” Henderson, Joe Pat Ballion, Jill Tuton and Ricky (Kris) Ballion; Sister-in-Law: Yvonne Henderson; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother: Steven Henderson; and Brother-in-Law: Wayne DeClerck.

Mr. Ballion will be cremated with no services at this time. The family will host a Celebration of Life at a later date.

Rebecca Raye (Bennett) Gaidosz

Rebecca Raye (Bennett) Gaidosz, age 79, previously of Taylorville, IL, passed away on Saturday, May 4, 2024 at Terra Vista of Oakbrook Terrace in Oakbrook Terrace, IL.

Rebecca was born on September 17, 1944 in Taylorville, IL, the daughter of Joseph Bennett and Elma (Wells) Bennett. She graduated from Taylorville High School before going on to earn her Bachelor’s Degree in education from MacMurray College in Jacksonville, IL. 

She worked as an elementary school teacher and also substitute taught many years in the Chicagoland area when she resided there. She worked for Creative Engineering Company for many years until her retirement. Rebecca was a good, Christian woman, and was a Member of Taylorville Lutheran Church in Taylorville.

Rebecca’s interests included sewing, reading, needlework, craft fairs at church, butterflies, and hummingbirds. She enjoyed and was always learning.

Rebecca is survived by her daughters, Sylvia (Paul) Jarecki of Villa Park, IL and Eileen Gaidosz of Taylorville, IL; 3 grandchildren, Alyssa Gaidosz of Glendale Heights, IL; Sarah Jarecki and Nathan Jarecki, both of Villa Park, IL; 3 great-grandchildren, Felice, Gabriel, and Teresa; siblings, David (Yung Mei) Book of Taylorville, IL, Bob Book of Kileen, TX, and Doug (Gina) Book of Bay Point, CA.

She was preceded in death by her mother, father, step father, Edwin Book; and sister-in-law, Lucy Book.

Mr. Joseph "Joe" Walker

Mr. Joseph Walker, 68, of Hillsboro, IL formerly of Bulpitt, IL Blue Eye, MO and Collinsville, IL died Thursday, May 2, 2024 at Hillsboro Rehabilitation and Health Care.

He was born July 5, 1955 in Taylorville, IL the son of Ward and Loudene (Foster) Walker, Jr.

Mr. Walker honorably served 8 years in the U. S. Army.  He had last worked as a truck driver.  Joseph grew up in the Midland area living in Bulpitt.  He and his wife at the time, the former Donna Warren gave birth to a daughter Jessica.

Surviving are a daughter Jessica (husband Jimmy) Lennox, 5 grandchildren Cody Walker, Bethany and Aiden Davis, Arabella and Tommy Lennox a sister Penny (Jim) Edwards, brothers Phil (wife Leya) Walker and Jimmie Walker.

Joseph was preceded in death by his parents.

Cremation rites were accorded.  A Graveside service with military honors will be held at 12:00 Noon Monday, May 13, 2024 at Camp Butler National Cemetery, between Springfield and Riverton, IL.  Masterson Funeral Home assisted his family with arrangements.

Blanche “Corky” Thomas, age 91, of Taylorville, Illinois passed away on May 2, 2024 at Taylorville Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation, Taylorville.

 

Blanche was born on September 7, 1932, the daughter of Noah Edward Harris and Blanch R. (Fisher) Harris. On April 21, 1951, she married John “Jack” Thomas.

 

Blanche worked as a nurse’s aide at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Taylorville and then as a homemaker. She enjoyed shopping, cooking, Sunday family dinners, and her daily Polar Pop fountain drink. Blanche was a family-oriented, fun-loving “pistol” who told it like it was and never lost an argument. She was a member of the Grace Baptist Church in Taylorville.

 

Blanche is survived by her son, John Thomas II of Kilbourne, IL; 2 grandchildren, John Thomas III and Suzanna Thomas, both of Taylorville, IL; 3 great-grandchildren, John Thomas IV, Andrew Thomas, and Katelynn Martin; and 3 great-great-grandchildren, Rylee Martin, Apollo Martin, and Ares Martin.

 

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; her siblings, Russell Harris, Clifford Harris, Ralph Harris, Mildred Vancil, and Viola Molar. 

 

A private family service will be held. Blanche’s final resting place will be Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville, IL.

Susan Jane Dallstream

Susan Jane (Hausladen) Dallstream, 70 of Taylorville, Illinois, passed away on Sunday, May 5, 2024, at Taylorville Care Center.  She was born on January 2, 1954, in St. Louis, Missouri, the daughter of Victor H. Hausladen and Elinor Harriet (Thompson) Wofford.  Sue grew up in Webster Grove, Missouri, where she worked as a student librarian at the public library.  She married Ronald H. Dallstream on June 1, 1974, in Springfield, Missouri.  Sue graduated from the University of Illinois, Springfield and worked for many years as a librarian at Taylorville High School and the Taylorville Public Library.  She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.  She enjoyed giving back to her community in various ways, including volunteering with Girl Scouts, Meals on Wheels, and supporting the local arts.  She enjoyed baking cookies and sewing crafts.  More than anything she loved her family and especially enjoyed attending the various events her grandchildren participated in. 

She is survived by her husband: Ronald Dallstream of Taylorville; children: Karen Rieken of St. Peters, Missouri, Andrew Dallstream (Kym) of Gurnee, Illinois and Daniel Dallstream of Bloomingdale, Illinois; and grandchildren: Freya Rieken, Aaron Dallstream, and Keira Dallstream.  She was preceded in death by her parents. 

A visitation for Sue will take place from 5:00p.m. until 7:00p.m. on Thursday, May 9, 2024, at McClure Funeral Home in Taylorville.  The graveside service will be held at 11:00a.m. on Friday, May 10 at Oak Grove Cemetery in St. Louis, Missouri.  Memorials may be made to the Taylorville Food Pantry, Christian County Animal Control, or Taylorville Public Library.  McClure Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Taylorville is assisting the family with arrangements. 

DeeAnna M. Samson

Mrs. DeeAnna M. Samson, 44, of Taylorville, IL passed from this life at 1:40 A.M. Friday, May 3, 2024, at Springfield Memorial Hospital.

She was born in Taylorville, IL February 17, 1980, the daughter of Larry C. and Rose M. (Wise) Scott.

DeeAnna married Richard “Ricky” Samson on February 26, 2011, in Taylorville, IL.

Mrs. Samson enjoyed country car rides, fishing, camping, riding in the tow truck with her husband, canning, singing and she was a great cook.  She loved the outdoors but especially loved the time she was able to spend with her granddaughter. DeeAnna put up a most courageous fight with cancer. She always had perfect fingernails.  She worked for Powder Keg Outfitters and was the best bartender at the Cork and Keg both in Taylorville, IL.

Surviving are her husband Ricky Samson of Taylorville, IL., 4 sons Keagan Scott of Pawnee, IL., Quinton Mills of Taylorville, IL., Dakota Lloyd Samson and companion Emily Powell of Springfield, IL., Nathan Mills of Taylorville, IL., a bonus daughter Tessa Anderson of Bulpitt, IL., her granddaughter Haven Scott of Taylorville, IL., a sister Angie Leers and companion Lenny Lortie of Taylorville, IL., a brother Larry (wife Tina) Scott, Jr., of Tennessee along with many aunts, uncles and cousins and her favorite dog Bailey.

She was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents.

Visitation for DeeAnna will be held from 5 to 7 P.M. Tuesday, May 7, 2024, at Masterson Funeral Home in Kincaid.  Funeral services will be held at 10 A.M. Wednesday, May 8 at Masterson’s.  Burial will follow in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens, Taylorville, IL.

Martha Kessler

Martha Kessler, 60 of Taylorville, IL, passed away on May 2, 2024, at her residence. She was born on November 28, 1963, in Hillsboro, IL, to James H. Kessler and Ethel Marshall, and they preceded her in death.

Martha worked in home health care for many years. She was a very caring mother and grandmother and held a special place in her heart for animals. She loved horses and her pets and in her spare time, she enjoyed tending to her flower garden. Martha was also very creative and had a special knack for creating things and loved working on projects. She was a jack of all trades and owned her own construction company in South Carolina. Along with being an avid Chicago Cubs fan, Martha loved to socialize and was a great bartender. She loved spending time with her family and friends and was loved by all who knew her. She is missed dearly.

She is survived by her children, Katina (Jake) Beaty of Ohlman, IL; Joshua Rhodes of South Carolina; grandchildren, Kara and Jakey Beaty; Masen Dilley; Mikey Jr.; Hailey and Camden Rhodes; siblings, Mary Ann Kessler of Witt, IL; Theresa (James) Moore of Irving, IL; Charles A. Kessler of Witt, IL; William (Loretta) Kessler of Irving, IL; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Along with her parents, Martha was preceded in death by her son, Mikey Rhodes; and three brothers, Donnie, George, and Jim Kessler.

Cremation rites have been accorded and a visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, from 9:00-11:00 a.m. at Sutton Funeral Home in Nokomis, IL. A memorial service will begin at 11:00 a.m.

Memorials in her honor may be made to Christian County Animal Control.

Noble Fredrick Ensminger

Noble Fredrick Ensminger, 95, just forty four days shy of his 96th birthday,  of Port Charlotte, Florida,  formally of Heyworth, Bloomington and Peoria IL, passed from this life unexpectedly and peacefully in his sleep into Heaven on April 12, 2024.  He was born May 26, 1928 in Heyworth, IL, and was the son of Frederick Leadford and Florence Noble Ensminger. He was married to Barbara Ann Parlier in 1950, who survives in Bloomington, and from this union were born Sherry Vondran, Stephen Ensminger and Janice McCormick. Grandchildren: Jared, Justin, and Joshua Southwell, Kiona, and Colette McCormick, and  Seven Great Grandchildren: Taylor, Haley, Rylie, Ella, Brooke, Kate and Xavier; and two Great Great Grandchildren: Lily and Axel;  his sisters, Jule Ensminger and Fern Ensminger Noth   He later married Dora  Sapp Lyons at Peoria, IL.  He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters Louise Greenfield, Eleanor Smith, and Winifred Ensminger and Dora Ensminger.

 

Noble was a graduate of Heyworth High School, Class of 1946, U.S. Marine Corps Casual/Air Squadron 11, working in Aerial Photography, Illinois State University, majoring in Art, and Heartland Community College majoring in Computer Science.  He was a Branch Manager for Electrolux, retiring in1986; Member of the Million Dollar Club at Snyder Real Estate, retiring in 1994 and Assistant Manager of Recruiting for the United States Census Bureau. He was an avid golfer and historian, researching the genealogies of the Ensminger and Noble families.

 

He was an Artist, loved to paint ‘plein air’ style in oils, acrylic, pastels and watercolor. He was a member of Artists Alley in Clinton IL and the Charlotte County Art Guild Visual Arts Center in Punta Gorda, FL. For over 30 years he won first and second placings on his artwork at Art Shows and fairs and won the State of Illinois first place award twice at the University of Illinois in Urbana.  Noble always stated: “You never see anything as it really is until you have painted it.”

 

Being raised on his Great Grandfather Dr. Harrison Noble’s farm, which was homesteaded in 1832, he loved the outdoors and learned the value of a great work ethic.  An avid sportsman, he loved to hunt in the timbers of IL and fish off the Venice Pier and look for shark’s teeth on Manasota Beach. He was baptized at the Heyworth Christian Church and his faith in Jesus Christ was truly evident and a part of his everyday life.  Noble was proud of his “Noble” name which was a part of family history, as his Great Great Grandfather John Noble,  was an English Sea Captain who left England, denounced his English citizenship, and fought in the Revolutionary War.

 

Noble was a very outgoing and friendly man, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, neighbor and friend to many.  Per his wishes, cremation services were accorded from Roberson Funeral Home, Port Charlotte, FL, and his ashes will be interred at Sarasota Florida National Military Cemetery with full military honors.  He stated that moving to sunny Florida in 1995 was the one of the best decisions he ever made. Memorials may be made to the Heyworth Christian Church, 308 North Vine, Heyworth, IL or to any Pet Shelter of your choice.
