Faye Sheley, 87, of Taylorville, passed away peacefully on March 12, 2026, at Decatur Memorial Hospital. She now rests in heaven with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, reunited with many beloved family members and friends.

She was born on November 9, 1938, in Mt. Carmel, Illinois, the daughter of Albert and Gladys Rigg. She married Ronald Sheley on September 18, 1960, at Lick Prairie Christian Church in Mt. Carmel, IL.

Faye grew up in a loving family on a farm as the youngest of seven children. With no running water or electricity for much of her childhood, she often shared stories of the joy she found playing in the surrounding woods, her dog faithfully at her side.

After graduating from high school, she left home to attend Lincoln Christian College. Because she needed to support herself, she took a job at Frank’s Food Fair. It was there that she met her partner in life, Ron. Together they built both a life and a career, working side by side at Frank’s and several other grocery stores for 42 years.

Beyond her family, Faye had several passions in life. She was an avid reader and, although she was often the smartest person in the room, you might never know it because of her humility and grace. She loved plants and gardening, though she never quite understood why her children failed to share her enthusiasm for vegetables.

Her faith was also central to her life. Ron and Faye were among the early members of Taylorville Christian Church and had the joy of watching it grow from a small gathering of believers into the vibrant church and school it is today. The church remained a cornerstone of her life, and she deeply cherished the friendships and fellowship of her church family.

Faye also loved to travel. She and Ron were fortunate to explore much of the United States as well as several destinations overseas. While her whining children were focused on amusement parks and McDonald’s, Faye would study the local history and quietly appreciate the places they visited.

Most of all, Faye will be remembered by her three children as a deeply loving mother. She instilled strong values, a love of God, and a generous spirit. Along with Ron, she modeled an unwavering work ethic, while reminding her family to embrace life and cherish time together. Her quiet strength, wisdom, and kindness will remain with those who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her husband Ron; children: Randy (fiancé Cathy) of Taylorville, Stan (Leslie) of Colorado Springs, CO, and Ryan (Kris) of Taylorville; grandchildren: Ashley Koniak (Jake), Kyle Sheley, Kala DeMuro (David), Danielle Hann (Ryan), and Wyatt Sheley. Three great grandchildren: Ally, Mady, and Baby Hann (due June 2026); sisters-in-law Sandy and Jeannie; brother-in-law Dennis; and many wonderful nieces, nephews and extended family members.? She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings: Frank, Sam, Fred, Mary, Ida Mae, and twin brother Ray; brother-in-law: Kenneth; and daughter-in-law: Jeanette.

In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place, and Faye will be interred at Lick Prairie Cemetery at a later date.

A memorial service for Faye will take place at 5 PM on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, at Taylorville Christian Church, 1124 N. Webster Street, Taylorville, IL, with Pastor James Jones officiating. The family will receive visitors immediately following the ceremony until 7 PM.

James Rouland

James Walter Rouland, 75, of Glenarm, Illinois, passed away on March 8, 2026 with family by his side after a long 3-year battle with leukemia.

James was born on December 24, 1950, in Springfield, IL, the son of Harold and Vivian (Holmes) Rouland, who were loving devoted parents.  James met his wife, Janet on a blind date on May 15, 1970, and married in September of 1972, in Springfield, IL.

James attended Feitshans High School in Springfield, IL and moved to the brand new Southeast High School as a member of the first graduating class in 1968.  He wrestled on varsity and worked hard to become one of the top wrestlers in Illinois for his weight class.  James attended Illinois State University and graduated with a degree in industrial technology with a minor in business.  He was drafted and joined the Air National Guard 183rd Fighter Wing in November of 1972. He eventually made this his full time work which he enjoyed.  He worked on F-4 weapons control systems and  F-16 avionics.  He traveled on many missions with the 183rd, including Kuwait, Qatar, England, Italy, Iraq, Panama, Canada, Denmark, Poland, and all over the United States, including Colorado, Alaska, Utah, Arizona, and Florida to name a few. He retired as a Senior Master Sergeant in 2009 and always admitted his favorite job was working on the planes and not the paperwork.

Everyone who knew Jim, knew he was an avid golfer.  He even spent time with his golf buddies in the golf cart when he was too weak to golf.  Jim also enjoyed the outdoors.  He enjoyed camping trips, canoeing, fishing, hiking, boating, bird watching, reading, gardening, raising chickens, helping farmers, and identifying trees.

What carried Jim was his faith in God.  He attended South Fork church for over 46 years and contributed by helping out with the youth, running the sound system for the church services, and mowing the grass.  He enjoyed traveling with his family and later with his grandchildren to many places.  He traveled with his wife to see Pearl Harbor in Hawaii, the Northern Lights in Norway, the sites of Rome, cruising in the Caribbean, as well as many other places.  He was persistent to plan a family vacation with Janet and his kids each year no matter how busy the year was.  He and Janet took their kids to see the Red Woods, the Freedom Trail in Boston, Gettysburg, the Rockies, New York City, Niagara Falls, Grand Cayman, and the beaches and sights in Florida countless times.  They also enjoyed taking their grandchildren to see the House on the Rock in Wisconsin, the John Deere Museum, Branson, Missouri, and the inside of caves. By the time the grandkids came along, Jim & Jan were both retired and loved having the kids at their house: building gingerbread houses, fishing, playing games, reading books, taking apart lawnmowers and microwaves, and swimming for hours.

James  was preceded in death by his parents.

James  is survived by his wife of 53 years, Janet (Jones); children Jonathan Rouland of Laguna Hills, California; Jill Rouland (Azael Ramirez) of Springfield, IL and 3 beloved grandchildren; Joel, Mateo, and Christopher Ramirez as well as his younger sister, Linda Horn (Jim Werner) of Punta Gorda, FL, aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, and cousins.  We would be remiss if we didn’t mention some of his closest friends from elementary school, high school  and college who rallied alongside him and gave him encouragement, adventure, and friendship for a lifetime, as well as to the many friends along the way that traveled with him on family trips, golfed with him, visited with him, and spent New Year’s Eve with him.

A special thanks to his long-time friends Rich Eggleston and Jim & Sue Wagy.

Rich, who helped mow the grass, took him to multiple trips to get blood, watched many Illini basketball games with him, as well as the entire series of The Chosen, conversed with him for hours, and drove him to appointments at Barnes in St. Louis.

Jim & Sue Wagy, who graciously hosted Janet in St. Louis, giving her rides back and forth to visit James at Barnes during his many treatments there in his long fight with leukemia which provided much emotional support to her and James during those trying times.

After completing his early education in Taylorville, his father, a coal miner who felt strongly about higher education wanted his son to be able to earn a “white collar” job someday.  William attended Saint Mary's College of Minnesota, where he graduated with his bachelor’s degree in 1953.  He joined the Army from December 7, 1953 through September 10, 1955 spending the majority of his time at Fort Carson, Colorado.  He then continued his studies later on at the University of Southern California, receiving his master’s degree in business and laying the foundation for a long and successful career.  William worked for many years as a stockbroker starting at Kleiner, Bell & Co. in Beverly Hills, California and then moving to Dean Witter and eventually Paine Webber in Rancho Palos Verdes, California.  After retirement, he enjoyed working at NordicTrack and 2nd Wind Exercise Equipment focusing on a different passion of his.

In 1967, while living in Los Angeles, William met the love of his life, Judith. They were married October 24,1968 and shared 51 wonderful years together until her passing in September 2020. Together they welcomed daughter Clare Elizabeth in 1971.  They lived many happy years primarily on the Palos Verdes Peninsula of California. In 1994, they relocated to Illinois, where they would continue to build memories and enjoy their later years.

William was an avid horse racing fan and built many wonderful and storied relationships during his time spent at Hollywood Park, Santa Anita and Del Mar race tracks in southern California.  For a time, he and Judith owned their own racehorse, Starlighter.  He received joy from his dearly loved pets Linus (“Nussy”), Frisky, Pepper and Dolly Pearl. William loved family road trips, especially traveling to the Rocky Mountains, and vacations spent at their favorite resort, La Costa in Carlsbad, California, where countless family memories were made.  He was a devoted supporter of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish football team.

He is preceded in death by his wife, parents and in-laws Robert and Helen Townsend.  Survived by his cherished daughter Clare Barton and son-in-law Ken, dear granddaughters Charlotte and Elizabeth, sister-in-law Rosemary Nicholson and nieces and nephew Laura, Nancy and Tim.

There will be no formal service.  His urn will be placed at Memorial Gardens in Estes Park, Colorado, right beside his beloved wife, Judith, and in sight of their treasured Rocky Mountains.

If one is so kind as to give a memorial gift, William, a loving BIL, was always very supportive of his wife’s 61-year involvement in the P.E.O. Sisterhood.  Donations may be made in his memory to, P.E.O International, https://www.peointernational.org/.
